Evanger’s Breed Buzz: Siamese Cat

Affectionate and intelligent, the Siamese cat craves interaction with its owner above all else, often using its trademark meow (resembling a baby’s cry) to gain attention. Some first-time owners are shocked at just how vocal Siamese can be – from low-pitched murmurs to raspy howls, the Siamese can chat it up better than any dog! Also like a dog, the Siamese is very athletic and curious, meaning no part of your house will be off limits.

Often used for show competitions, the strikingly beautiful Siamese cat has a short, shinny coat, and beautiful light blue eyes. The coat contains a mutated enzyme in the pigment (a form of albinism) that produces a cream-colored torso with darker points at the ears and face. Throughout history, the Siamese has been a highly coveted breed – originally from Thailand (formerly known as “Siam” – hence, the name “Siamese”), the Siamese was adored by the royal family and sometimes given as gifts to visiting dignitaries.

While generally regarded as a healthy breed, the Siamese is predisposed to several genetic abnormalities, such as poor night vision (due to a lack of tapetum lucidum in its eyes). Since the Siamese has no undercoat, maintaining coat health is a top priority. We recommend Grain-Free Meat Lovers Medley with Rabbit Dry Food for Cats mixed with Goin’ Fishing Dinners for Cats for a wonderfully nutritious meal any Siamese will love! Our Goin’ Fishing Dinners feature Salmon as the first ingredient, providing a healthy dose of coat nourishing Omega-3 fatty acids. These meals are also blended with chicken liver, an excellent source of vitamins and minerals that support the immune system, eyesight, and healthy tissue function.
